Say 'HELLO' to the new BEECH CROCHETED CUSHION.
At last after some gentle persuasion I have decided to make the BEECH CROCHETED CUSHION official and it is now available for purchase on the website and in the Dunnknit Designs Etsy shop.
This beauty was the result of a project that I worked on with SARAH BEECH OTTOMANS. Sarah makes individually designed storage ottomans that are hand made and upholstered in London. She uses the most beautiful fabrics and her Ottomans are absolutely stunning.
Sarah approached me asking if I could make up a couple of tester crocheted pieces for her to see if they could be used as a covering for a new Ottoman design that she and her workshop team were working on.
Unfortunately a chunky knit Ottoman didn't work out so I got my design head on and the beautiful bespoke crocheted cushion was the result. Hence the name The 'BEECH' crocheted cushion which like everything else at Dunnknit Designs is available in many different colours. I loved making this design with it's crocheted pattern and detailed edges and it now lives with Sarah in her beautiful home in London.
Also did you know that APRIL is NATIONAL SRESS AWARENESS MONTH?
No, well neither did I until it popped up on my newsfeed this week and when I've looked into it there's lots going on.
Stress Awareness Month takes place every April and has done since it first launched in 1992. Throughout this period of time, teams of experts aim to increase public awareness about stress. This includes highlighting the causes of stress, the negative effects stress can have on the mind and body, and how to relieve stress.
So what has Stress Awareness got to do with Dunnknit Designs?
Well, it has been said that 'Once you get beyond the initial learning curve, knitting and crocheting can lower the heart rate and blood pressure and reduce harmful blood levels of the stress hormone cortisol. But unlike meditation, craft activities result in tangible and often useful products that can enhance self-esteem.' How good is that?
So with the amount of knitting and crocheting that I do, I guess I should be 'as cool as a cucumber hey!' I wish!
It can only help to be aware though and I simply thought that this week I would do my bit to help spread the word. After all, life in general for most of us these days is often full of stress and there are many ways suggested to keep it to a minimum, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, talking about your feelings and dedicating time to relaxing. Many things that I'm sure we all wish we could do more of! Plus there's always getting out in the sunshine, if you've been lucky enough to have any this week. The last couple of days have been beautiful here!
There's nothing like that 'feel good factor' and sometimes for me I get a real boost that all the hard work is worth while when lovely customers share their delight with me by sending me a photograph of their Dunnknit Designs purchase in situ. I always love seeing where my creations end up in their new forever homes. Crazy I know but anyone who is a maker will know that often you get so attached to whatever you've spent a long time nurturing and making that it's genuinely difficult to say goodbye sometimes.
So this week I sent off a beautiful Bunbury Bumper Footstool to a customer who we'd worked together with samples to get the right colour for her home decor. Olive Green turned out to be the perfect colour choice.
Now I think that's all of my news for this week. I hope you've got lovely things planned for the weekend to de-stress if you've had a busy week.
We're off to the Junior Inter-Regional Rowing Regatta in Nottingham tomorrow where our daughter is representing the North West. It's one of those nail biting yet exciting proud parents moments when the camera will be at the ready. It won't be good for the stress levels thats for sure, but we'll have our fingers crossed. One thing I do know is that I'll definitely be doing lots of knitting next week to de-stress and come back down to earth again.
Until next time,
